About

Velma Benjamin, founder

My name is Velma A. Benjamin and I am the founder of STOP Cares, Inc., formally known as S.T.O.P. Support Ministry. In 2003, S.T.O.P. support ministry was established in order to encourage survivors of domestic violence. The acronym S.T.O.P. stands for Specially selected by God, Transformed to Serve, Overcoming past hurts, and Persevering into the future.

Between 2003 and 2015, we held several retreats and conferences, sent barrels with school supplies to the Caribbean and also sponsored a missions trip to Jamaica and Grenada. Each year, we organize a range of community events to bring greater awareness to domestic violence. Since 2013, I have been mentoring women after completing mentoring training with the Daughters of Zion Leadership Mentorship Program, based in Dallas, Texas. In 2016, we obtained a 501c(3) status and as a non-profit organization, the main goal of this ministry is to educate, encourage, and empower survivors of domestic violence.
