About

Velma Benjamin, founder

In 2003, S.T.O.P. support ministry was established by Velma Benjamin in order to encourage survivors of domestic violence. The main focus of the ministry is education, encouragement and empowerment. The acronym S.T.O.P. stands for Specially selected by God, Transformed to Serve, Overcoming past hurts, and Persevering into the future. Members of S.T.O.P. meet on a monthly basis in Brooklyn, NY for support and encouragement. In addition to hosting an annual retreat, S.T.O.P. support ministry sponsors a yearly conference in October in honor of domestic violence awareness month. Over the past several years, the ministry has raised funds to support domestic violence survivors. They have also sponsored multiple missions trips to the Caribbean–including Jamaica and Grenada–and a range of community events to bring greater awareness to domestic violence.
